Katharina Schleidt studied technical informatics at TU Vienna. After many years working in industry (i.e. 10 years systems programmer for Siemens), in 2004 she discovered environmental informatics when she started working at the Austrian Environment Agency, allowing her to align her skills with her interests. Since then she has worked on various topics pertaining to environmental data, foremost its management, structuring and provision. This work has ranged from the semantic integration of longterm ecological research data (LTER) to the incorporation of Sensor Web concepts into INSPIRE, the European SDI initiative; she coordinated the use of O&M in INSPIRE, and defined the European Air Quality reporting formats based on INSPIRE. In 2016 she founded DataCove e.U. in order to broaden her involvement in various environmental data networking initiatives beyond the scope of the Austrian Environment Agency. Since then she has been involved in various international projects as a consultant on environmental data modelling and provision.
